I'm pregnant! and am missing my usually large vegan appetite!
Happy New Year everyone - from Helen and Jane at the Vegetarian Recipe Club.
So here's a happy new blog topic from the VRC - I'm expecting my first baby - and have been going through a strange transition with my food & cookery which I thought I’d share with you.
Anyone who knows me will confirm that my passion for vegan cookery is driven largely by a rather insatiable appetite and love of creating and eating all manner of food.
So what I wasn't expecting was this habit of a lifetime to be hit by morning sickness and nausea! Over the last month or so, my interest in food has sadly declined. I told Jane earlier I am actually mourning my appetite!
I've been surviving largely on bananas, toast and oat cakes, and very healthy Dahl from a South Indian Deli up the road from my house (when I've been really tired by 5pm during the first trimester)... it's a weird sensation feeling very hungry, yet not being able to fit in more than 1/4 of my usual meal portions!
I've still been ensuring I get all the vits and minerals I need for a healthy pregnancy, with some super Mum-to-Be supplements from Higher Nature. Breakfast normally consists on Marmite on Wholemeal Toast (great for B12 and the essential folic acid) with a banana, for instance. I've also enjoyed cooking and eating entire bags of spinach, handfuls of nuts and juicy avocados. I must admit I’m getting a bit sick of redbush and ginger tea though!
I've been very well guided by a wonderful wall chart from the VVF, the Fabulous Female Fertility & Pregnancy Wallchart which is stuck to my kitchen wall.
Both the vitamins and the wall chart are available from the Viva! and VVF Shop.
So despite getting used to adjustments to my eating, I'm feeling good and beginning to enjoy a healthy and happy vegan pregnancy.
I'll keep you posted on our progress!
